Please answer this. Should I ask him out?

Well, I know this guy. He's really cool. I've been having a crush on him for about a year. I got my best friend to ask him if he has a girlfriend. He hasn't answered yet, but if he says no, should i ask him out.? I mean he might like me, we like all the same things. and that's a rarity for people like us. we both play guitar and are really into the sixties. Does he like me and should i ask him out if he doesnt have a girlfriend?
